What is an Author Brand?

As an author, you are a business.  Your book is your product.

As an author and a business, everything your readers see, hear, or come into contact with that has your name on it, or associated with it tells them something about you.  That is branding.  Your name is your brand.  Everything you do as a author effects your brand.  (It’s more than your logo or the visual elements of your brand.)

What is an Author Platform

In its most simple context, your author platform is everything you use to deliver your brand to readers and sell your books. It’s not just the tools you use, but also the way in which you use them.  Your website, social media accounts, newsletter,  are all parts of your platform.  Intangibles like your internet presence (how easy it is to find you (your author name) via internet search, etc) is also a part of your platform.

I'm a new, never before published author. Do I need an Author Platform Assessment?

If you are completely new and have no web presence (other than your personal accounts) and no blog, then you don’t have a platform to brand.  You need to build them both together.  We can offer consultation on that, as well.  Instead of an Author Platform Assessment, you may want to do an hour of New Author Coaching to get started.

I'm a blogger, can't I use that as my author brand?

Having an established brand and platform can be great, or it can be detrimental, but each case is unique.  If  you are a blogger with an established brand and platform, our Author Platform Assessment can help you decide if it is possible and/or wise to pull your different businesses/activities together under one brand or if you would benefit by separating them.

I write in multiple genres, how do I brand?

Author Branding Essentials specializes in helping multi-genre authors build an all-encompassing brand.  The Author Platform Assessment is the first step.  We will also let you know if it is best not to join the brands and instead use a pseudonym.  This is rarely our recommendation, but sometimes it is necessary.
